What is web 2 Site Design?

Wikipedia says:

"Web 2.0, a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media in 2003 and popularized by the first Web 2.0 conference in 2004, refers to a perceived second generation of Web-based communities and hosted services such as social networking sites, wikis and folksonomies that facilitate collaboration and sharing between users. O'Reilly Media titled a series of conferences around the phrase, and it has since become widely adopted."

Web 2 site design is a type of web design and much more. Some examples:

  • Web 1.0 > Web 2.0
  • Doubleclick –> Google AdSense
  • Ofoto –> Flickr
  • Akamai –> BitTorrent
  • mp3.com –> Napster
  • Britannica Online –> Wikipedia
  • Personal sites –> Blogs
  • Page views  –> Cost per click
  • CMSs  –> Wikis
  • Categorķas/Directorios  –> Tagging

The list went on and on. But what was it that made us identify one application or approach as "Web 1.0" and another as "Web 2.0"? The question is particularly difficult because many of those buzzword-addicted startups are definitely not Web 2.0, while some of the applications we identified as Web 2.0, like Napster and BitTorrent, are not even properly web applications!)

Nowadays, web 2 site design is in evolution to be more than only a web site design.

If your company - your blog, or your page is, in your opinion, a web 2 site design and you think that it could be here, tell us.
